Automatic captions

VideoBB can write captions for your video automatically. A speech model on our own servers turns the speech into text, so your audio is not sent to an outside AI service. The result is a caption track that viewers can switch on in the player.

Add captions to a published video

1. Open the video's page in your studio. The video must say Ready.
2. Press Generate captions.
3. Wait a few minutes. The captions then appear in the player's CC menu.
4. The studio page confirms the captions are live and shows their language. Press Regenerate to make them again.

How viewers turn captions on

Viewers press the CC button, or the C key, to switch captions on and off. The gear menu also has a Subtitles/CC option, where they can pick a track or turn it off. The player remembers that choice next time. See player settings and shortcuts.

Captions in the editor

You can also turn captions on inside the editor, or ask the AI assistant to do it. The captions show on the preview as you work.

Correct a line

Go to Project in the editor (press Esc or the Project button) and open the Captions section. Turn captions on, then fix any line in the list; the time next to a line moves the playhead there. When you cut clips, the caption times follow your cuts. When you reorder clips, the captions are written again from the transcript.

Captions in a saved edit

When you save an edit with captions on, the new video gets them as a CC track. Viewers can turn that track on or off, just like any other. Your corrected lines and the caption position (bottom, middle or top) are kept. The caption size only changes the editor preview. In the saved video, the player shows captions at its own size. Read saving your edit as a new video for the rest of that process.

Getting accurate captions

• Record clear speech, with one person talking at a time.
• Keep background music low under speech.
• Check names, numbers and technical words, which speech models often get wrong.
• Fix any mistakes in the editor before you save and publish.
