What gaming viewers notice first
Gaming viewers spot a dropped frame or a blurry minimap straight away. A choppy capture of a fast shooter feels wrong, even if the game ran smoothly for you. Long playthroughs, clutch moments, guides and reviews all sit side by side here.
Capture settings that keep gameplay sharp
Record at the frame rate you played at. For most modern games that is 60 fps. VideoBB keeps the frame rate of your file, so a 60 fps capture plays at 60 fps in every quality.
Suggested capture and export settings
| Game type | Export | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shooters, racing, fighting | 1080p at 60 fps, high bitrate | Fast motion needs frames and data |
| Strategy, card and turn-based | 1080p at 30 or 60 fps | Text and icons must stay readable |
| Scenery and showcase | 1440p or 2160p at 60 fps | Extra detail for Premium viewers |
Keep the HUD and chat readable
Small text is the first thing to suffer when video is compressed. Health bars, maps and chat can smear at 720p. Record at your game's native resolution, and keep a face cam away from the minimap. Before you publish, watch your upload at 720p on a phone to check it.
1440p and 4K for Premium viewers
Free viewers watch up to 1080p. The 1440p and 2160p versions are for Premium members. Uploading at 1440p also gives the 1080p version more detail to start from. The player then picks a level for each viewer, as our guide to adaptive bitrate streaming explains.
Long sessions and big files
A three-hour stream recording can pass 4 GB, the limit per file. Split it into parts, or lower the bitrate for the archive copy. Our guide to uploading very large video files covers why big uploads fail and how to avoid it.
Uploads resume within 48 hours in the same browser if your connection drops mid-way.
Clips and highlights
- Cut a clutch round out of a long recording with the free online trim tool.
- Keep a single round or a funny moment under three minutes and it plays as a Short.
- Embed a match or guide on your clan or community site; the embed follows the video's visibility.
