How the trending page works

Trending lists the long-form videos that people are watching and reacting to right now. New uploads with strong engagement rise fastest, and older videos slowly make room.

What moves a video up

• Engagement: views, likes and comments all count toward the ranking.
• Freshness: the same engagement counts for more on a newer video, so the list keeps changing.
• Public and ready: only public videos that have finished encoding can trend. Shorts have their own Shorts feed.

Help your own video get noticed

Viewers decide in a second whether to click. Three things help most:

1. A clear thumbnail. Our guide to thumbnails that get clicks shows what works.
2. A specific title and description. Say what the video shows in words people would search for.
3. Sharing it. You can embed the video on your own site, and the player adapts its quality to each viewer's connection.
